Will My Hdmi 1.3 Cable I Use For My Ps3 deal with Full Hd 1080p For 3Dtv?

The new 3D technology is coming at us fast and furious. So it is not surprising that it is bringing a lot of confusion and uncertainty, especially when it comes it older hardware and it's capability to deal with 3D pictures. Many believe if you want to enjoy 3D at Full 1080p video resolution, the new Hdmi 1.4 cable is required. And that the Hdmi 1.3 cable will only yield a video resolution of 1080i for 3D.

If this was the case, older Blu-ray Player's like PlayStation 3, which will come to be 3D capable in September 2010 and has a Hdmi 1.3 output, will not be adequate to yield images of 1080p when playing a 3D Blu-ray Disc. As of now, Sony's Ps3 is the only older Blu-ray Player that will maintain 3D Blu-rays. All other 3D Blu-ray Players are 2010 models and come equipped with the indispensable hardware and codec already on board.

Blu Ray Technology 2011

The truth is, that Hdmi 1.3 cables can deal with 3D output. As long as the Hdmi cable you are using is rated "High Speed" or better it will maintain Blu-ray 3D production at Full Hd 1080p resolution. Two key components for a source expedient to deal with 3D production are codec and meta data. Sony will have to includes these enhances via their 3D Firmware upgrade. Judging by pass upgrades, such as providing maintain for internal decoding of Dts-Hd expert Audio, Sony should have no problems accomplishing this task.

The codec used to store 3D is Multiview Video Coding or Mvc. It produces a Full 1080p frame for each eye and using only 50 percent more storage space than a 2D disc. The Ps3 was created before the Mvc codec, so Sony has to implement Mvc maintain without changing any hardware. Also required from the PlayStation 3 is the capability to yield and receive, from the 3D display, the exact meta data in the transportation which happens in the middle of any Hdmi-equipped devices.

This transportation is done via Extended Display Identification Data or Edid. It transfers information sent from a video display to a source over E-Ddc lines to delineate its capabilities. A 3Dtv will used the Edid to see if they are 3D capable, and if the PlayStation 3 will work with the Tv. Basically the Ps3 must be capable to understand and react to this new Edid value sent by the 3Dtv.

Once Sony has made the firmware ready for you to upgrade your PlayStation 3 with the new 3D technology, you should have no issues with using a Hdmi 1.3 cable. Agreeing to most experts, a Hdmi cable should not be a great concern for consumers in regards to 3D. In general due to the fact Hdmi cables and hardware are not being marketed with version numbers (1.3,1.4) anymore. When purchasing a Hdmi cable you should come across one of the following: Hdmi Standard, Hdmi High Speed, Hdmi acceptable with Ethernet, Hdmi High Speed with Ethernet, and Hdmi acceptable Automotive.
Instead of deciding what Hdmi version number you need, your focus should be on what highlight you want maintain for. Either it be for Deep Color, Audio Return Channel or 3D. A High Speed Hdmi cable will be able to replacement the signal from your Ps3 to a 3Dtv. Finding a High Speed Hdmi cable should not be a problem since the vast majority of Hdmi cables artificial and sold while the past 3 years have been High Speed Hdmi cables.
*** One thing to be aware of is that you will not be able to replacement a Blu-ray 3D signal through to a non 3D Audio/Video receiver. Because these older Hdmi 1.3 A/V receiver do not have the Hdmi Edid language for 3D display capabilities, they are unable to replacement information from display to the source expedient (3D Blu-ray Player). A good work around to this problem would be to buy Blu-ray Players with dual Hdmi outputs, such as Panasonic's Dmp-Bdt350 or Samsung's Bd-C7900. ***

Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player

Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player
Sony DVP-SR500H 1080p Upscaling DVD Player (Electronics) : The Sony DVP-SR300H 1080p Up-scaling DVD Player is one fantastic machine. I just received the Sony DVD player today and I set it up immediately after the UPS carrier handed it over to me. But I didn't like the start-up and reference guides because, because they do not explain how to set up the machine thoroughly, in my opinion. I had a difficult time understanding the instructions in the guides. Once I got the machine started, it worked like a gem. I agree with the other 59 reviewers before me, who gave this Sony DVD player 5 stars. Every positive comment that was said about this machine turned out to be true. The images on the HDTV screen are clear and the colors are vivid. Some of the reviewers said the images shown on the screen is like that of a Blu Ray player. I've never seen an image produced by a Blu Ray player, but I'll take their word for it. The HDTV is an RCA 32" LCD HDTV (model no. 32LA30RQ), and it belongs to my mother. The DVD player was a gift to her, by the way. The lack of an eject button on the remote control was not a problem for me though. This is a marvelous machine. I would recommend it to anyone. The only thing I didn't like was how the instructions for setting up the machine in the reference/start-up guides were written.

Pioneer Dv610av-k Black Multi Region Code Free Hdmi Upconverting 1080p DVD Player Review By Nat (San Antonio, TX, USA) :I bought this because we had a very outdated one. I love how easy it is to control and set up. It's also very light weight and thin which is great. Our other one was a box!
I have yet to try a international DVD but my Mom is sending me some German DVD's for my kids so i will leave some feedback after i try them out.
I also love that this DVD player has a memory. It will recognize a DVD that was played before and then skip right through everything so we can watch the movie. Great feature!!

Pioneer Dv610av-s Silver Multi Region Code Free Hdmi 1080p Upconverting DVD Player with SACD and DVD-Audio Playback
Good DVD Player! The Pioneer DV-610AV-S DVD player has proved to be a truly remarkable device. After only about 25 minutes reviewing the clearly-written instruction manual, In my opinion the DV-610AV-S player produces a picture which rivals any Blu-Ray picture I have ever seen. Originally, I purchased this machine just to play my foreign DVDs, but it's so good I use it to view all my DVDs. This player comes with a US type plug(no plug adapter needed), an easy-to-understand manual, out-of-the-box play-ability and top notch picture and sound quality to equal the best players on the market--my 56" Samsung DLP TV never had it so good. However, be aware that this device was intended for foreign markets and does not come with a US warranty from Pioneer. This is one of the best and most satisfying purchases I have made in a long time.

BDP-S480 Sony Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Review

Sony BDP-S480 Blu-ray Disc Player (Black)
BDP-S480 Sony Blu-ray Disc Player (Black) Review : This unit pretty much on a whim. Since it's so new, I couldn't find much in the way of user reviews. It plays Blu-Ray disks fine (my old Toshiba was pretty much a hit or miss in that regard), but the network functionality is poor. But....

I was using Netflix on my Xbox 360 but grew tired of the high annual Xbox Live fee so wanted a player with Netflix support. Compared with the Xbox 360, the Netflix interface on the Sony is a joke... it only gives you access to your instant queue... that's it. No searching, no recently played, no recommendations. There are hints in some of the menu functions that more might be coming in future firmware releases, but who knows.

Another feature I wanted was streaming over my home network. I tried connecting up to Windows (7) Media Center and then to XBMC. More than 80% of my videos wouldn't show up or wouldn't play - all are AVI files, encoded in a variety of formats like xvid, divx. The same was the case with files stored on a USB memory stick - they simply wouldn't play showing up as 'corrupted'. Have not tried the other network apps like Hulu, Pandora.

The one thing about this player that I really do like is the Android app for remote control. Easy to set up, worked like a charm. I will likely return this unit in the next few days.

1080p High-Definition Picture as the Director Intended

High-Quality DACs and the Pioneer-exclusive PQLS (when paired with a PQLS-equipped Pioneer A/V receiver) precisely control the audio bitstream signals from the video player for the absolute best jitter-free signal transfers of Blu-ray, DVD, and CD music during multichannel output.

New Pioneer DV 420K - All Region Free Multi System / Multi Region 1080p DVD Player with HDMI Upconverting & USB

New Pioneer DV 420K - All Region Free Multi System / Multi Region 1080p DVD Player with HDMI Upconverting & USB
A great multi-region DVD player for modern TVs, review By A. Moore : When we moved to the USA, we had a shock. In the UK, multi-region DVD players are common, with cheap models retailing for the equivalent of $50 or less in every supermarket. Add to that the fact that 90% of TVs will play NTSC signals, as used in the USA and Asia, and playing discs from other countries is as easy as can be. Over here, most TVs will only display NTSC, and not the PAL signals used in Europe. Also, the vendors have severely locked down DVD players by region, so American consumers can't play foreign DVDs.

Well, I brought with me a collection of 150 DVDs from the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, China and Japan. I refuse to buy them again, since in many cases I picked the best version available. Even if I did plan to re-purchase them, many are simply not available in an American, Region 1 disc.

Although players are available on the cheap in the UK, I spent a little extra on a Pioneer player in 2003, which is still in use by a family member now. It had a great picture quality on our widescreen CRT TV, and played any disc I threw at it - even a badly authored disc which many other machines refused to touch. This made a Pioneer player the obvious choice now we needed a new unit.

But some things had changed: We needed a player suitable for a 42" 1080p HDTV, rather than a 28" widescreen CRT. The size and the nature of the display is much less forgiving when it comes to picture quality. It also needed to convert PAL colours to NTSC whilst upscaling the image (and not downscaling it first). This meant there was an element of the unknown when it came to picking our player.

I am happy to report that this player works perfectly. It is built as well as you would expect a $90 player to be built, so don't expect a 20lb chunk of metal. The remote is the same layout as my 7-year old player in the UK, and it has one of the most logical button layouts I've used. Even the on screen menus and displays match that old player. They may not look fancy, but they tell you everything you need to know.

The player is a Japanese version, designed for tourists. It will output PAL or NTSC, and it works on American and European voltages. Change the power cable and you can use this in the UK without a step converter. It's truly an international DVD player.

Using HDMI, Pioneer's Kuro link is available. European users will remember this from the SCART days -- when you power on the player it switches your TV input automatically to the just-activated unit. The manual claims it only works with Pioneer TVs, but my Philips TV has a similar function (as used by the Philips Blu-Ray player attached to it), and it works just the same on my TV. There are other connections on the back of the player, but I see no reason to use them over HDMI. One downside is that there's no HDMI cable included.

So... picture quality. I'm comparing this to the up scaling performed by my Philips Blu Ray player. Obviously I could only test US, Region 1, NTSC DVDs on that player, so the comparison is by no means complete. Regardless, upscaling from 480i to 1080p is of a very high quality, even if detail levels pale in comparison to HD. My Japanese version of Kill Bill Vol. 1 looks great, with the bright colours blaring out at us. Switching to The New World - Director's Cut shows that the up-scaling features of this unit outstrip the $100 Philips Blu ray. That player exhibited quite a bit of Haloing and edge enhancement without adding details. Those effects are still present, but much less obvious.

The player will, however, show up low quality discs. My HK R3 edition of House Of Flying Daggers looks atrocious. Pretty much unwatchable. It's a low quality transfer of a visually difficult film, so this should come as no surprise.

On to PAL discs. Out of the box, the player outputs to 480p. Taking a DVD with a vertical resolution of 576 lines and down-scaling it as such, the picture quality is nasty to say the least. If you are stuck with a SD NTSC TV, at least they will play. The good news is that with the HDMI set to output at 1080p, the player does not downscale to 480 before up-scaling to 1080 - it takes the 576i signal and directly converts it to 1080p! This means that PAL discs look incredibly sharp. With 20% more vertical detail to work with, the upscaler can produce incredibly good images for your HDTV.

I tested the UK DVD of The Incredible, which has as perfect a transfer as DVD is capable of, and it looked stunning. The chase sequence through the jungle looked as good as I have ever seen it. Compared to NTSC DVDs, this was a revelation. Following this, I tried an old edition of Father Ted on DVD. Produced for TV in a 4:3 ratio, I expected to see numerous interlacing/combing effects, but the show looked as good as one could expect of a 15-year-old TV show filmed on video tape, and no real problems were apparent. We followed this with an episode of Spaced and an episode of The IT Crowd, both produced in 16:9, and in the case of the latter, very recent. They looked great.

In fact, the only thing giving away the conversion process was a slight judder to the end credits of all three TV shows. While watching fast motion, this was not evident. Raiders Of The Lost Ark looked good, regardless of the action on screen.

One note regarding colours -- my TV is already set up to display Blu Ray and HDTV with pretty accurate, natural colours. This unit was rather dark out of the box. We set the HDMI colour to Component and made minor Brightness/Contrast adjustements using a THX Optimizer, but things still appeared a little dark on PAL discs. The solution? We adjusted the Gamma setting to -3 and it solved all our problems.

There is more to this player. It will record your CDs to a USB drive plugged in to the front of the unit. I haven't tried that one yet. Also, it will play DivX and AVI movies from USB, CD or DVD. AVI rips of some UK TV shows and the Berlin premier of the restored Metropolis both looked better that on a computer monitor, thanks to the upscaler's help. The playable formats are very limited, but it's a nice extra feature.

So, in conclusion: if you have many foreign DVDs, buy this player. Even if you don't, it's worth it as a dedicated DVD player, since it has better upscaling that the average supermarket Blu-Ray player. Well worth every penny, and it could only be improved by including an HDMI cable in the box.

PIONEER DV-220V-K WORK GREAT! : I have several region "0" DVDs which will NOT play on my older Toshiba DVD player plus a few region 2 which won't. After reading the reviews on this product I purchased it from World Wide Distributors. It arrived in 2 days complete with an HDMI cable (you DON'T need to buy it separately if purchasing from this company) which is of no use to me as I have a SONY WEGA TV, before HD days. Simply plugged the included red-white-yellow leads into the player and the TV, powered it up, and immediately without any adjusting it played a region 0 which would not play on the Toshiba player, a region 1 of course played fine, and then a region 2 played as well. A friend has a recent model player from another company, much more expensive, in which you must enter a variety of codes to make it play the various regions. Not so with the Pioneer - insert the DVD and the player figures out what to do to make it play. It will also play my photo CDs - a nice bonus. What more could you ask for in this price range! Fantastic, highly recommended!
